Diploma in Nursing Admission and Application Requirements

Are you aspiring to join the ranks of nursing professionals? The Gauteng College of Nursing invites applications for admission to its esteemed Diploma in Nursing program at various campuses in the year 2023. Embark on a journey of excellence and compassionate care at one of the following campuses: Bonalesedi, Ann Latsky, Chris Hani Baragwanath, and SG Lourens.

Requirements for Application:

  • Create a Profile: Before applying, you must register a profile on the designated system.
  • Citizenship and Residency: Applicants must be South African citizens residing in the Gauteng Province.
  • Academic Qualifications: Possession of one of the following school leaving certificates is required: a Senior Certificate, a National Senior Certificate, currently in Grade 12, or a National Vocational Certificate Primary Health.
  • Application Deadline: All applications must be submitted on the GPG Professional Job Centre system by or before the 14th of August, 2023. Late applications will not be considered.
  • Document Submission: Certified documents will be uploaded within the system. However, shortlisted candidates must bring supporting documents to the selection center.
  • Online Applications Only: Hand-delivered or emailed applications will not be accepted. All applications must be submitted through the online system.

Subject Criteria:

Applicants must meet the following subject criteria:

  • Grade 12: English HG D or SG C, Biology HG D or SG C, Mathematics HG D or SG C, and an M score of 17.
  • National Senior Certificate: English Level 4, Life Sciences Level 4, Mathematics Level 4 or Maths Literacy Level 5, and an APS of 27 or more (Life Orientation counts half the score).
  • National Vocational Certificate: 50% in Fundamental Subjects (English First Additional Language, Maths/Maths Literacy, Life Orientation) and 60% in Vocational Subjects (SA Health Care System, Public Health, The Human Body and Mind, and Community Oriented Primary Care).
  • Current Grade 12 learners must meet the National Senior Certificate requirements in their Grade 11 final results.

Responsibilities of Successful Applicants:

Upon acceptance, successful applicants are required to:

  • Sign an agreement with the Department of Health.
  • Attend lectures.
  • Participate in Work Integrated Learning (WIL), which includes shifts and work on public holidays, weekends, and nights in Gauteng Department of Health hospitals and clinics as part of the program requirements.
