The National State of Disaster, which facilitated the SRD grant, came to an end in April 2022. However, the Department of Social Development has been working on a regulatory framework for the payment of the grant since President Cyril Ramaphosa announced the extension of the grant.
The SASSA R350 grant’s new legislative framework has additional qualifying and assessment criteria, which is why recipients have to reapply if they’ve previously received assistance.
“Fortunately, the entire application system remains a purely digital process, thereby enabling quick access and turnaround times,” said the department.
WHAT SHOULD KNOW ABOUT REAPPLYING:
Applications can be made via the SASSA SRD website – https://srd.sassa.gov.za.
Further application channels will be made available in due course.
The department said applicants will be considered for the SASSA R350 grant from the month in which the application is made and it will be validated every month.

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) said payments for the new COVID-19 social relief of distress (SRD) grant would be made from mid-June 2022.
R350 GRANT TO BE PAID FROM MID-JUNE
Millions of South Africans who depend on the social assistance were forced to reapply for the grant after the State of Disaster lapsed and the grant was moved to a new legislative framework in April 2022.
Sassa said people who reapplied and were approved will receive the R350 grant from mid-June as part of the new cycle.
“SASSA will continue clearing outstanding payments from the previous cycle as and when the bank details are confirmed.
“The payments will not be done together but will be done month by month.
“More than one payment may be made in a month but no one will receive double payments in amount.”

This presumably means that the money owed to beneficiaries could be paid multiple times in a month but no single payment will be greater than R350.
